davidrussell.org

This digital experience is brought to you by David Russell, a technologist and artist. Beyond technology, you’ll probably run into all kinds of topics—from music to theology, media to organization.

A brief history.

This weblog was established in 2005 to be another creative outlet for David. Launched initially as a section of davidrussell.org, the blog soon began to take on a widely different personality (and design) than the original home. After much deliberation, davidblog.com was purchased and the Geeklog content management system was implemented to carry out the duties of blogging. After a few months of tinkering and tweaking, it was decided that davidblog should be retooled with a stronger, more extensible platform. A week later, davidblog v2 was born. Built on the fluid and scalable WordPress, this version survived for about a year. Then, David returned to his roots by restoring davidrussell.org and discarding the davidblog brand. To this day, no one knows why. Pure speculation is all we have. If he’d quit typing in the third person, he might even be able to tell us. But alas, it remains a mystery.

About the blog’s architect.

David and his beautiful wife, Missy, live on Capitol Hill in the heart of Washington, D.C. David is an avid reader and is a student of many arts, including music and design. His primary inner-drive revolves around Christian ministry and fulfilling the Great Commission. He is also passionate about leadership, web development, marketing, design, brand identity, communication, and interpersonal relationships. A guitar player since age 14, David is also very connected to the music community. On a typical day, you’ll probably find David developing CSS, hacking lines of PHP, entrenched in a dialogue with the blogosphere, studying words on a variety of media, pressing Alt+Tab on his keyboard, dreaming, reading his blog stats, organizing something, listening to a podcast, drinking a Dr. Pepper, marking and tagging a site with ma.gnolia, frustrated at a gradient in Illustrator, sorting out Backpack, thinking, jamming some guitar, breaking a web site, fixing a web site, DASHing, Mozilla Thunderbirding, Google Talking, AIMing, Skypeing, or iTunesing.
