Google Gets Personal

I’m really thrilled about Google’s New Personalized Search Page, a service fresh out of the Google Labs this week. If you are a Gmail enthusiast already, it’s pretty easy to setup. (Sorry, I didn’t experience it sans-Gmail.)

In a nutshell, Google is allowing it’s audience to create a better “first hit” experience by allowing a much broader stroke of information to be garnered when a user opens their Google home page. You can tailor the page to fit your needs, albeit news, weather, sports and business reports and even a handful of headers from your Gmail Inbox. You can also create some custom information, like adding the davidblog RSS feed or other syndicated information to your content items.

A word of warning, if you set this up at work be wary of who uses your computer. If you’ve got a customized Google page running, people can access your Gmail (even if it isn’t used as information on your personalized page.)

Here’s a screenshot in action.

Update to Web Resources

Hey all.

I have a small set of links that I have compiled that list some of my favorite places on the Net. I just updated this section with a bunch of new stuff–just check out Web Resources for the complete list.

And, (1.) if I missed you by mistake and (2.) you have a good site, post the link or send it over via email.

Taylor T5

Blair called last night and told me about this awesome guitar from Taylor called the T5 that blends the signature Taylor acoustic tones with the versatility of an electric guitar.

(Non-monetary) Change.

Well, if you haven’t noticed the new look to davidblog.com, go read someone else’s blog (or check your Theme in the user preferences if you are registered.)

I hope everyone enjoys the new aesthetic grandeur. If you’ve known me long enough, you know I love change and I have to keep my life moving and fresh to keep from being bored.

Change is something that is tough to deal with for some folks though. No, I’m not talking about someone simply refreshing something they’ve become bored with (like the look of this blog.) But real change. Moving to another city. Going to another church. Getting a new job. And sometimes, it’s the small things that people want to hang onto the most. Buying a certain brand product because they have for years. Taking the same vacation to the same destination. Using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.

As difficult as it is for me to RESIST change, others have just as difficult a time at allowing change to occur. We create our zones of comfort and live there; content, because we know it and trust it. But I can’t help wondering if change can bring a deeper sense of contentment over the long-run. Sure, you’re bound to strike-out a time or two when diving into something new, but I think the risk is worth it.

Stay solid in the things that matter most, but in the nonessentials of life, learn to adapt, mold and recreate opportunities for success by changing up the play of the game.

Jenn’s tying The Knot.

Well, my sister’s getting married. She and Keith have a little place on The Knot. They’re made for each other. She takes 4 hours to get ready, he’s patient. He’s nice and calm, she’s crazy and loud. They both have a heart for God and lead lives of servanthood. Missy and I are thrilled for them!

J&K, You “kids” have fun!

What’s a blog anyway?

I was talking with Creg Darby last night about blogging. He just added one to his site and was asking for advice on what to do with the thing. Honestly, even as an owner of a blog, I couldn’t think of what we actually do with these things. I told him to promote his music with it as that is what his website does, mostly. But, it got me thinking about my blog and how random and pointless it seems to be–at least the content anyway. So, I think I’ll shift. Hopefully in the next few days we’ll launch a new davidblog.com. I have a feeling at this point that I will tie davidblog to another site I own, pimpmychurch.com, a church marketing and consultancy business that began this year. It just doesn’t seem that any of the “personal-level” information presented here has been relevant enough to effect change.

Stay tuned.

EDITED TOPIC

I had a link in this topic to a site that was very funny, however, some questionable material was just recently added to the site that I can’t condone (the joy of blogging I guess) so I’ve edited this topic to remove the link. Apologies for any problems.
